Self-leadership is the ability that we all possess to lead ourselves, to discover, to create and recreate a model of our own existence. Unique and unrepeatable.
Was I born holding aces?
The answer and the key are inside you.
It is a matter of attitude and it can be learned.
Was I born holding aces? Throughout this life I have heard the expression, “You have been born holding aces” on many occasions, but I never gave it much importance, until the day that, from so much hearing, I decided to ask one of my collaborators because it’s he said about me. And his response came to me like I was a lucky person, that I’m always lucky in everything I do. “So. Does that mean that if I buy a lottery ticket I will have a better chance of winning than someone else? Is that what you want to say? “I asked. “Well, mmmm” … he answered while he remained pensive. “Why do not we do the test? I answered. Look we put 10 numbered balls in a ballot box, the 10 ball carries a prize of 1 euro, we all get to take out a ball and we make several rounds of ball shot at random. Let’s analyze if you really are right. If at the end of 20 rounds I’ve had the ball with the prize more times than the others, then that means I was born holding aces … Is that what you wanted to say right …? “
With an anecdote like that is how I usually start my lectures on self-motivation and self-leadership. It is not the only one, I also count sometimes, what happened the day I called the long-distance swimmer Jordi Cervera to ask him which part of the world recommended me to swim and he told me that the Strait of Gibraltar was swimming and what I did from That moment when I hung up the phone and read the sentence I had on a poster that had framed me on the wall of my house. But that’s just a couple of anecdotes, I have many more. My life has been full of failures and I have tried to learn from everyone.
In this world, there are people for all tastes and according to those people can be classified in thousands of different ways: Spanish and foreign, high and low, rich and poor, white and black, fat and thin, with hair or bald, etc. etc. The classifications are endless. But for me there is a classification that is a little more important than the others because I believe, it defines the person’s way of being and totally conditions their future. And that way of classifying the people I refer to is between two categories: a) those who pursue their dreams (those who self-lead to where they want) and b) those who simply do not know what they want and get carried away by the circumstances of life.
I do not know quite well because, but I think I have a certain magnet for some kind of people, especially for the unemployed and I say this because they often approach my people looking for work. And before giving you any advice, suggestion or contact, the question I always ask is the same one I ask when I meet many people in life. What is your dream? o What are your dreams? I have asked that question to thousands of people and surprisingly, 99% of people do not know how to answer that question.
People who develop the ability to self-forget, those who have dreams and persecute them, those who know what they want and face their fears decide to take a step forward, they make mistakes, they learn, and they advance, they make mistakes, they learn and they advance, they make mistakes , they learn and advance, they are the people who get things, they are people who live life passionately, they are people who do not need an alarm clock in the morning because the project they have in front, the carrot that moves them, is so big and so powerful that drags them from the front to wake up, get out of bed, enjoy life and overcome all the barriers and difficulties that life has for him and everyone.
I think that instead of waiting for the arrival or directives of a leader in order to “solve all the problems”, each one of us must realize a path of exploration and inner discovery to find what he likes, what his dreams are, to allow its inner leader to emerge. That inner leadership is what I understand as self-leadership.
But how is that self-leadership achieved?
To develop personal leadership it is necessary to travel a path of self-discovery, in which the first step the person must recognize their strengths and weaknesses. And face the obstacles that prevent you from getting ahead of your own life.
It is fundamental to believe in yourself and have a good self-esteem index: to know yourself, to value yourself. Recognize mistakes and learn to learn from them. Have confidence in yourself. And that confidence and self-esteem can only be achieved by setting small goals and seeing how you can overcome them.
It is necessary to redesign new Mental Models. Discover what your limiting beliefs are and replace them with empowering
It is necessary to have clear objectives: that the objective is always the compass in the crossings. Coordinate strategies and actions to achieve it.
It is necessary to learn that failure does not exist until you stop persisting, it is necessary to develop certain emotional intelligence and have self-control and some management of the emotional world.
It is necessary to see things from a distance, to have a good perspective, to have some flexibility to achieve a global vision of situations and be able to change at the right time.
The skills for self-leadership are acquired and learned through continuous training. And they make it easier to progressively improve the results of our actions. The most important thing is to believe in yourself, take the first step and make a mistake, and then another step, and another, and persist in your effort.
What do i need to change?
The key question to get the maximum performance and potential to your person is; What do I need to change to self-life and realize the dreams I crave?
If the question is born of a sincere commitment to oneself, to being, not to doing, to the bottom, not to the surface, a transformation is possible. We must leave the comfort zone in which we are accustomed to accommodating ourselves to, we must renounce the habitual behavior patterns, and unlearn old habits. You have to act from the possibility, not from resignation. Act instead of re-triggering.
Only then can we “create” the future in which we want to live: first knowing where we are going, then marking a route, starting up and generating creative responses to the thousands of barriers that we find along the way.
All human beings have received the same option to realize us. The great difference is marked by those who have decided to go beyond the limits to realize their vision: being themselves, overcoming fears, taking risks, creating new realities, changing the context to achieve the desired results. Leaving aside the “complaint” and the place of “victim” to assume the responsibility and commitment to be builders and architects of their own destiny.
