Outdoor Training

Home Outdoor Training

Outdoor Training is also called Team Training. Outdoor Training or Team training is not the same as Team Building. Outdoor training is based on experiential learning. Experiential learning is also known as learning through action, learning by doing, learning through experience and learning through exploration and discovery.

All our events can be accompanied by a group reflection session in which we invite the participants to reflect on the starting point before the activity, what happened during it, the changes experienced, the assimilated learning, the conclusions, and a reflection final.

A few days later, we will provide you with a report as a global summary of the process lived by the team, some general conclusions, a global reflection and a final moral so that you can transmit these results to the company’s management and/or to the participants and thus, enhance the use of experience.

In our outdoor training courses we do not intend to teach anyone. We love helping you discover it yourself.

When in a study the CEOs of several companies were asked what qualities they most valued in the members of their company, knowing how to “work as a team” was the one that scored the highest, and was ahead of others such as experience, dedication, or communication skills.

The high-performance teams stand out for having a good leadership, a good communication, a clear distribution of roles, a lot of cohesion and a good plan of action that guides them and focuses them towards a very specific objective. They are designed especially for teams of managers, these training courses also called Outdoor Training, combine outdoor challenging activities with reflection sessions that enhance, through practice and experience, the change in the way of feeling, thinking and acting of the participants, focusing on those aspects of the group that need strengthening: leadership, decision making, teamwork, communication, personal improvement, etc … Each team is a world and, although everyone has much to improve in their way of teamwork, each team has its particularities.

Outdoor training is a training activity that differs from traditional theoretical methods by encouraging the improvement of the participants’ skills through personal experience, overcoming certain challenges and outdoor exercises and the subsequent vision and reflection on what happened.

In outdoor training, participants are invited to live an experience that requires a lot of “teamwork” to overcome each challenge and thus achieve a final goal.

The organizations hire individuals so that they can join the company and work in one or more teams (groups of people who work in coordination to achieve certain results).

What does “Outdoor Training” mean?

We all know that Outdoor means “outdoors” and “training” training. An “Outdoor Training” is a training course where through a series of outdoor activities and exercises followed by an analysis session, participants discover, learn and incorporate the knowledge, skills and specific behaviors that will lead them to develop personally and improve the performance and efficiency of the team.

 

Why carry out a course with outdoor activities, ie an Outdoor Training?

Creating a high-performance team is neither an easy task nor is it achieved overnight. The outdoor training methodology is facilitated through the advantages offered by the learning based on direct experience and practice, the subsequent analysis and the obtaining of conclusions through the group discussion of the experience.

 

What is experiential learning?

No lesson is better learned than the one to which each individual comes by himself. With the experience of a series of unique and exciting experiences, we will be able to prepare the individual for change, impact and that he himself reflects and learns in an active, natural and lasting way. This is what is called “experiential” or “experiential” learning and that type of learning is nourished by Outdoor Training.

We design programs adapted to the needs of our clients. With our programs, participants can improve various facets of their teamwork: solving problems, developing a mentality without self-limitations, having confidence in themselves, improving communication with others, adapting to change, developing a spirit of improvement, make decisions more effectively, etc. But to present a program before, we’ll have to talk to you. Each team is different and for each team, there is an ideal place, some suitable exercises and a facilitator with a certain profile and experience. We do not know what your problem is and what your objective is. And we cannot promise you the sky without first knowing what your case is and what you need. What we can guarantee 100% at the outset, whatever the team, is that with our Outdoor Training they will come out more cohesive than they entered and tremendously motivated. We have lived it on many occasions and we can guarantee a remarkable and appreciable improvement in cohesion, awareness of the importance of teamwork, mutual knowledge and motivation of the participants.

The 6 phases that guarantee the success of our Outdoor Training courses:

Phase 1

The diagnosis

To start the Outdoor Training we met with the HR department to understand the idiosyncrasy and culture of the company, to know the particularities of the team in question and we passed questionnaires to each member of the team to understand the perception that each one has of himself, of the other team participants and the team in general. (Belbin methodology). We analyze what are the problems and barriers that prevent optimal teamwork, and then perform a diagnosis.

Phase 2

Design

We use the results of the diagnosis to design an “outdoor training” program tailored to the team. Depending on the objectives pursued, we select the location, the program to be carried out and the exercises to be carried out. We also select the facilitator with the most appropriate profile for the objectives pursued. The whole project is presented to the company and, once accepted, we start with the preparations of the whole project (reservation of spaces, preparation of the material, reservation of the internal facilitator or hiring of the external facilitator if we think of a better one and, of course, the expert monitors, etc.). We move to the place of the course and prepare everything. We know that arrival and welcome are an important moment to create the necessary cooperation climate. And we like to have everything perfectly prepared.

Phase 3

The presentation

Upon arrival, after welcoming them, we inform the team participating in the Outdoor Training about the results obtained in the diagnosis so that they know the perception that the team has about itself and its characteristics. We present the Outdoor Training program highlighting the important aspects that we think should be addressed (objectives pursued, methodology to be used, standards to be met, attitudes we expect from them, etc.).

Phase 4

The exercises and reflection sessions

During one, two or three days (depending on the degree of depth we wish to achieve) we invite participants to overcome a series of tests, exercises, and challenges that require a broad involvement of all team members. Each challenge is presented under a series of points through which it will be very clear what is expected of them (environment, role to be played, material they receive, goal to achieve, rules to follow, system for evaluating their results and, in some occasions, competencies that we want to emerge and develop). During the execution of the exercise, a video camera will record the best moments. After each Outdoor Training exercise (there are exercises of 30, 60 or even 120 minutes), we invite you to enter the room, watch the video and, based on questions that invite reflection, we carry out a session of “Briefing” where we analyze carefully what happened and draw a series of conclusions and lessons in order to improve the welfare of all and the performance of the team.

Phase 5

The conclusions and the action plan.

Before finishing the course we carried out a reflection session from which the general conclusions commented by them during the Outdoor Training were drawn and we designed an action plan to be carried out in the company, thus ensuring the “transferability” “Of what was learned. And we know very well that an action plan is effective if, not only we enumerate a series of things to do, but in that plan of action, it is very clear, who or who is going to do it and when. Only then can we evaluate the degree of excellence in its application.

Phase 6

Monitoring.

Each Outdoor Training course is different. Sometimes, after a few weeks, or even months after the action of Outdoor Training, we meet several times with the client and the participants to relive the experience, verify the correct assimilation and application of what was learned during the course of outdoor training, measure the progress and implementation of the plan agreed by all and continue to advise and inspire the team to work as a real team. This is how we can extend the effects of Outdoor Training and guarantee the return on the investment made.
